LASIK

Young parents having fun with their kids after LASIK

Laser Vision Correction (LVC) is a procedure used to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. It is one of the most commonly performed elective surgeries in the world with over one million procedures performed annually worldwide. At California Eye Professionals, the LVC procedure of choice is LASIK (laser assisted in situ keratomeleusis).  People choose to have LASIK in order to reduce or eliminate their need for glasses or contact lenses. One of the benefits of LASIK is that it is typically painless and has a rapid recovery time.

In the LASIK procedure, the surgeon utilizes a Femtosecond laser to create a flap on the cornea and then uses a computer guided Excimer laser to reshape the cornea to refocus how light rays are projected onto the retina producing clearer vision.  The flap is then placed back over the cornea.  The eyes are covered with protective shields and after a brief recovery time in the office the patient goes home.  Typically the patient is seen the next morning post-operatively where the shields are removed and the patient can resume most normal activities.

LASIK surgery is a fast procedure, typically taking only a few minutes.  Usually both eyes are operated on at the same time.  Recovery time is rapid and most people experience a dramatic improvement in their vision in the days following the procedure.

While LASIK is extremely safe, no surgery is without risk.  Your doctor can go over all the risks as well as other options for vision correction (surgical or non-surgical).  The best way to find out if you are a candidate for LASIK and to answer all of your questions is to schedule an appointment for a LASIK consultation. I made the decision to have LASIK four years ago. As a careful consumer, I searched all over Southern California and finally found the very best right here in Temecula – Dr. Richard Burns, M.D. with California Eye Professionals! Everyone at the office was so incredibly friendly and Dr. Burns answered all of my questions … It felt good from the minute I walked into the office. Dr. Burns understood my concerns, expectations and educated me about the whole process.

After my CustomVue lasik procedure with Dr. Burns, my vision improved to 20/15. This is amazing. I’m so happy. I highly recommend Dr. Richard Burns and California Eye Professionals to anyone wanting LASIK!
